Sure can… if you can’t find some little kiosk in a mall, check out a trophy/award company (weird I know) but they have to engrave the little plates that go on the bottoms of trophies. I used to work at one and would do gifts all the time. We even did round items like bowls & cups. Engraving your dog tags will not be a problem with them.

My husband gave me a set of his when he graduated boot camp just before we were married, he said it was because he loves me and I am “his” and no one elses. As for the suicide thing my husband gave them to me over 7 years ago and he hasn’t killed himself. I know so many guys that have given their dog tags to their girlfriends or wives and it wasn’t because they were suicidal.

i would never give up my dog tags or my medals. too personal for me during my combat years in vietnam.

This sounds like someone who is suicidal, to me.

I have never heard of anyone giving someone else their dog tags as a sign of respect and I don’t really see how it could be perceived as that.

I have heard of people giving away things that mean alot to them when they are about to commit suicide though.

The only time someone, besides you, has total possession of your tags is when you’re dead. How any of the above responses can see this as a sign of respect is beyhond me.

I think you need to find out if this guy is suicidal or not.

Mike gave me one of his medals. and his dog tags. but we have known each other for 17 years and have been together since the 8th grade, he went into USMC boot camp June 2001 and went to Hawaii then came back May 2005 and gave them to me. I wasn’t able to be there with him, while he was gone it was super hard. but he loves me and i think that’s why he gave them to me. I still have them of course but he kinda took them back cause we live together.. hahaha

I’m in the military and i would not give my dog tags away to just anybody whether still enlisted or not. they would have to be very special to me. so i think you should take this as a huge compliment!!

I am looking at my dog tags right now and here is whats on it in order:
Full name
Social Security Number
Blood Type
Religious Preference.

The tags themselves are made from thin cheap metal. So don’t expect anything too fancy compared to the the fakes they sell to kids.
